An international soap star has been joined by a group of farm yard animals to record a music video in support of planet-friendly home-grown plant food.Former Neighbours, Home and Away, and Emmerdale actor Richard Grieve plays the part of a politician in the two minute YouTube video in support of eco-friendly food as part of a Friends of the Earth Campaign.
In the video, the animals are seen singing their version of Little Shop of Horrors hit ‘Feed Me’ to Grieve in order to convince him to feed them planet friendly food.
Speaking about the video, Grieve explained he was shocked to hear the meat and dairy industry produces more carbon emissions than all of the world’s transport.
He said: “This video calls on the Government to get behind planet-friendly farming which means treating animals better and giving them home-grown feed instead of importing it from areas where forests have been cleared to grow it.
"You don't have to have worked on Emmerdale to know what a hard time UK farmers are having so I'm completely behind Friends of the Earth's call for more money and support for small and planet-friendly farms."
Livestock production is responsible for 18 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, more than all the planes, cars and lorries on the planet.
Friends of the Earth has warned 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest will be destroyed because of animal feed production and cattle ranching if the current trends continue.
Clare Oxborrow, Friends of the Earth's food campaigner, said: "Animals can't help the meat and dairy industry's gigantic carbon hoofprint - but the Government can.
"By using public money to fund planet-wrecking factory farms, the Government is propping up an industry that is wiping out forests and making climate change worse.
"The politician in ‘Feed Me' is won over by the animals' pleas for planet-friendly feed - by contacting your MP you can help win over the Government to change the deal behind everyone's meals."
As part of the Friends of the Earth campaign, 241 MPs have signed Early Day Motion 845 which raises awareness of the environmental and social damage being driven by the global meat and dairy industry and calls for action.
