The sustainability offered by American hardwoods could help with the environmental issues which are facing the world - and this could be potentially useful in efforts to fight global warming.
When speaking ahead of the 24th General Assembly of the International Federation of Interior Designers and Architects and the World Interior Design Congress 2009, American Hardwood Export Council consultant Roderick Wiles noted the sustainable credentials of such woods. He said that "as the world faces up to environmental change", American hardwoods could prove to be more sustainable for both architects and designers.
"By growing more hardwood each year than the volume harvested, the US hardwood industry can commit to substantial increases in exports," Mr Wiles pointed out.
Meanwhile, the BBC recently reported that many who farm in the Amazon rainforest, an area hard hit by deforestation, are in the mindset that the rainforest has "endless resources".
Creating a sustainable forest economy is a vital issue for the region, the source noted.
