Hollywood director James Cameron has spoken out about the building of a controversial new dam set to be built in the Amazon rainforest.
Under the dam proposals, a huge hydroelectric dam is to be built across the Xingu River in the Amazon rainforest - and should the construction go ahead, the dam will be the third biggest in the world.
Those opposed to the dam claim that it will lead to vast swathes of rainforest being flooded and impact the life of a number of indigenous tribes. However, the Brazilian government has insisted that the area to be flooded has been carefully planned to avoid unnecessary devastation - and noted that the original size of the area has been much reduced.
Cameron's most recent film, Avatar, told the story of clashes between a fictional indigenous tribe and developers, on the fictional planet of Pandora.
