The controversial building of a new dam in the Amazon rainforest has drawn further criticism from the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.
According to the group, while the dam could help to provide Brazil will clean energy resources - and also help meet the growing need for power in the South American nation - the building of the energy source could have serious implications for the precious ecosystem of the Amazon."The dam itself could contribute to severe flooding and wreak harm on the ecosystems in the flood plain of the XingĂș River, as well as give off damaging amounts of methane," the group warned.
This in turn will devastate the lives of the indigenous people and impact their welfare, it said.
Dam construction work is due to finish in 2015. The energy source has drawn controversy from all kinds of groups, with Hollywood film director James Cameron the most recent famous face to speak out about the dam.
