A rainforest protection scheme run by a group of people from the US is aiming to show indigenous people that there are other ways of living in the forest besides cutting it down and clearing.
While taking part in the CONAPAC Adopt-A-School in Peru, Titusville resident Nancy Kopf has been to the Amazon rainforest 12 times. On these trips, she helps local residents to consider other ways of living within the tropical forest that cause less harm to the environment."We're not a bunch of gringos going in and changing their lifestyles. We're just helping them have a more productive way of life," said Ms Kopf.

Many rainforest protection plans are halted by the fact that indigenous people rely on the clearing of tropical areas and logging for their livelihood. However, recent REDD plans have tried to tackle this problem and stop forests being worth more dead than alive.
