Loreto’s regional director of foreign trade, tourism and handicrafts Mauro Guimet reported that Cusco authorities support the Amazon Rainforest’s candidacy in the online global competition to rate the New7Wonders of Nature.
The official, who visited the Imperial City, said that the regional directorate of foreign trade and tourism has committed to support such bid and that local media showed their interested in the subject.
He also stressed that two voting campaigns were carried out in places visited by large numbers of Peruvian and foreign tourists such as the fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the citadel of Machu Picchu.
In addition, voting booths have been placed at strategic places, like the tourist information office and the Regional Culture Directorate in Macchu Picchu, so that more people can participate.
The website, www.new7wonders.com, provides a live ranking of the current Top 14 and Bottom 14, with colored arrows showing whether each Finalist has moved up or down since the last grouped ranking.
The New7Wonders organization aims to showcase important sites around the world to make people aware of what they are leaving behind for their children and future generations. Its original campaign for the man-made New7Wonders, attracted over 100 million votes.
