An ink and toner recycling scheme set up by Brother less than two years ago has helped save over 2,000 acres of rainforest.
The Brother Earth charity has helped protect over 80,000 mature trees and 380,000 saplings in conjunction with the Cool Earth organisation.
Furthermore, the printer firm noted that for every four drums of toner cartridge and eight ink cartridges that are recycled it saves a tree in the Peruvian Amazon.
Phil Jones, sales and marketing director, said: "The environment has been at the heart of what we do at Brother for nearly 15 years.
"The Brother Earth initiative is a clear reflection of this focus, and we are the only printer manufacturer to be involved in such a scheme."
Recently, printer ink firm Ricoh announced that since it set up a recycling programme in 2008 the company currently collects back 85 per cent of the toner cartridges it sells.
Furthermore, general manager of service operations Lee Choon Heng told Thestar.com.my that if it had not set up the scheme tonnes of old products would have ended up at land fill sites.
