Recent scandals which saw several claims over the impact of global warming on the planet disproved do not mean that the threat has disappeared, it has been urged.

Following embarrassment for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) after some of its claims were found to be false, 19 top scientists have written an open letter claiming that despite this, "no Amazon rainforest myths have been debunked".
They conceded that while the IPCC could come under fire for its citation of a review paper rather than the original research findings, the overall conclusion of its report remains true.
The study looked into the impact of times of drought on the earth's rainforests.
"In 2005, more than 2000 square kilometres of forest caught fire in the tiny state of Acre alone. During the severe drought of 1998, approximately 40,000 square kilometres of forest caught fire. These are indisputable facts," the letter said.
A report from the IPCC which claimed that the Himalayan glacier could melt by 2035 was also proven to be false recently.
