Most Brazilians are concerned about the rise of the planet's temperature and consider global warming a serious problem, according to a survey released on Wednesday by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry.
According to the survey, 92 percent of the respondents were aware that the temperature was rising.
Eighty-four percent of the respondents expressed their concern about the environment issue while only 16 percent said they were not worried.
The biggest concern of the respondents was the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.
Brazilians maintain that all countries must contribute to fighting global warming, but 47 percent contended that rich countries should do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This position coincides with that of the government, which urges industrialized countries to assume responsibilities for tackling climate change at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.
Sixty-six percent of the respondents supported greater efforts to protect the environment even if this could mean delaying economic development.
The survey was conducted among 2002 people aged above 16 years living in 142 municipalities.
