Chevron Corp. is using documents from rival attorneys in its bitter environmental lawsuit in Ecuador, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The San Ramon-based oil giant has subpoenaed and made public email, letters and other materials from the legal team that is suing it in the case, materials that have proved to be a public relations nightmare for the plaintiff.
Chevron (NYSE: CVX) also released outtakes from the documentary "Crude," on the case -- despite the filmmaker's objections.
It is Chevron's latest move to discredit the groups suing it over pollution in the Amazon rainforest. Chevron inherited the suits when it bought Texaco in 2001.
The company said earlier this year that lawyers for groups in the Ecuador suits turned in bogus reports to a court in 2005, the Business Times reported.
