Brazil remains a popular winter holiday destinations for tourists seeking respite from the cold weather, a travel expert has said.

Tom Hall, travel editor of holiday bible Lonely Planet, noted that no matter how popular Brazil continues to be, there are still many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

He pointed out that aside from the world-famous white sandy beaches of Rio de Janeiro, there are places around the north-east of the country such as Natal and Fortalez that are worth visiting and have been developing over the past few years.

"You have miles and miles of unspoilt beaches and then you have places like Fernando de Noronha which is a national park archipelago," Mr Hall said.

"It is basically limited by the amount of accommodation that is there, which means it never feels overcrowded."

Tourists were also advised to see the Amazon rainforest and Iguassu Falls - one of the "wonders of South America".
