The raw footage of a documentary about the impact of the oil industry on the rainforest must be turned over to a court as part of an ongoing legal battle.
Documentary maker Joe Berlinger directed the controversial film Crude, which revealed an eco disaster that many living in the Amazon rainforest believe oil giant Chevron is responsible for.A group of indigenous people are currently suing the oil firm for billions of dollars, claiming that its operations in the forest have caused higher than normal levels of certain diseases, as well as pollution to the environment.
Chevron refutes the claims and has been fighting for the raw Crude footage to be shown.
Commenting on the news, Mr Berlinger said he and his lawyers will now appeal.
"The filming and production of Crude, which presents both sides of this compelling and important story, is precisely the type of investigative journalism that the First Amendment was designed to protect," he said.
