Hollywood director James Cameron has addressed the fictional plight of the characters in his Avatar movie, but has also shown concern for the real life issues seen in the world's rainforests, according to Monga Bay.

The environmental website said that "to his credit", the director has expressed a desire to express the struggle faced by those who live in the rainforests of the world and are fighting to protect their habitats from the threat of development.

The director has changed the website of his blockbuster movie Avatar to include updates on environmental issues and has sponsored a mass tree plant to mark Earth Day, said the site.

Avatar tells the story of the plight of the Na'vi tribe on the fictional planet of Pandora,

Cameron has previously spoken out about the building of a controversial dam in the Amazon rainforest. The dam is set to be built across the Xingu River and environmentalists claim it will devastate the region.
