Those interested in getting up close to wildlife could consider a trip to the Tongass National Forest, the biggest area of temperate rainforest in Alaska.
Travel firm Alaska Rainforest Islands said that the region which the rainforest covers is part of all that is iconic about Alaska. Islands such as Prince of Wales are home to wildlife including bears and native birds.As well as interesting wildlife, the area boasts the biggest collection of authentic totem poles in the state, which have been collected from various rainforest villages and communities in the area.
In the summer time, the island of Petersburg hosts its Tongass Rainforest Festival, which could make these months ideal for visitors.
Alaska is not an area known for being home to rainforests, with areas like the Amazon and the Congo more likely to have been heard of, but its forests are a designated area of natural beauty.
