Taking steps to save the endangered Amazon rainforest could be steps which could help to save the world, it has been noted.
Writing for the Jakarta Post, environmental commentator Evi Mariani said that "a strong message caps 17 meetings with government and NGO representatives in three cities in Brazil during a recent press visit".
This message, she said, was that countries need to save the Amazon rainforest and cut back levels of pollution put out into the atmosphere.
She went on to point out that in recent months, the Brazilian government has rejected carbon market business, which sees countries purchase carbon credits for emissions.
Speaking to the source, policy director at Greenpeace Brasil Sergio Leitao said that it is in favour of recent measures to tackle climate change put in place by the government in Brazil.
Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and global warming.
