The big news of the day for tropical forests was the event Forest Day 3 in Copenhagen. Several top authorities on the subject participated, including Sir Nicholas Stern, ministers for the environment from the UK, Vietnam and Denmark, Nobel Prize winners such as Rajendra Pauchari, Wangari Maathai and Elinor Ostrom, and local leaders such as Governor Eduardo Braga of Amazonas.
It seems there is a likely global agreement coming into place on the value (and consequential financing) of the protection of global forests not only as carbon storage facilities but also as providers of other envronmental services such as biodiversity and water.
