WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) - It's an Amazon adventure for some local students, as they're off to South American to study the culture.
Nine students, eight girls and one boy, from Wilbraham Monson Academy in Wilbraham left Tuesday on the trip of a lifetime.
For the next two weeks, the students will be emersed in the day to day lives of the indians living in the Amazon.
Brian Easler, the trip coordinator and chaperone told 22News that this trip will be a great educational experience. "The learn about the local laws and customs that are contributing to the destruction of the rainforest, but also they'll meet a lot of people who are making a lot of headway to changing that to, to protect it," he said.
Jeremy Gilford is one of the students going on the trip and is excited about what he will learn and see: "I'm hoping, that you know to meet people who can show me a different perspective and maybe appreciate what I have here more."
The students can expect a culture shock, there are no cell phones or television.
Also, all of the food they will be eating is homemade, straight from the surrounding environment.
