A BEVERLEY-BASED travel company is giving people the chance to see some of the world’s rarest birds.
Think Birding Ecuador has just been launched by travel agency Think Galapagos, which is run from Beverley by husband and wife team Rachel Dex and Santiago Bejarano, a top Galapagos naturalist.
The couple have been running Think Galapagos for more than 10 years and have now launched this new venture with Amazanga Expeditions, an arm of the Napo Wildlife Centre.
The centre is an award-winning indigenous community project in Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest. It is owned and run by the Anangu Kichwa community to protect 82 square miles of their ancestral land.
Ms Dex said: “This is a very exciting new project for us. Our partners from Ecuador’s Amazon region are one of the most successful indigenous sustainable living eco-tourism projects in Latin America.
“They have an excellent track record of providing exceptional wildlife holidays, whilst at the same time protecting an amazing corner of the Amazon Rainforest and we look forward to helping them grow this project to help protect forests in other parts of Ecuador.”
Ecuador is home to more than 15% of the world’s bird species and more than 1,600 species have been recorded to date, more than double the number found across the whole of Europe.
